Every successful business strives to reach higher goals and be better than the year before. Growth in a business requires innovation and a drive to accomplish tasks more effectively. Innovation is no longer just about technology, but about innovating how business is done. At Chief Construction we are focused on how we innovate our processes, services and customer relationships.

2017 challenged us to look up in order to navigate the year ahead. As we embark on 2018, we are reminded to look ahead and focus on the end point. Chief Construction has assessed our innovative strategies that can help attract, cultivate and retain our customers. The outcome of the assessment was that our team needed to grow and diversify to keep up with our customers’ expectations. In 2017 we not only increased the number of team members, but we also added new roles. We added the following roles to our team, Project/Estimating Supervisor, Steel Supervisor, Marketing Manager and Project Coordinator. We also expanded our self perform work to not only include concrete, steel erection and electrical, but also carpentry.

Take a moment to re-introduce yourself to some familiar faces in new roles as well as new faces in existing and new roles.


  • Russ Canfield – Field Operations Manager
    • With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Russ has an extensive background. He is responsible for planning, organizing and evaluating the construction project according to the assigned schedule and given specifications. He prepares schedules and monitors the work progress for 14 superintendents, the steel erection supervisor, concrete supervisor and carpentry crew. Russ conducts meetings regularly and implements various quality control programs to reach the required standards. He is responsible for leading and motivating the team members to achieve the operational goals and objectives. Russ ensures that all production targets are achieved by adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Trent Tyler – Steel Supervisor
    • Trent has been with Chief Construction for over 20 years and has a depth of knowledge in steel erection. He is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of work crews engaged in erecting structural steel. He reviews materials to assure quality and proactively rectify errors, assists the team in the performance of tasks and motivates his team to ensure accuracy and quality in their work.
  • Rob Rasmussen – Project/Estimating Supervisor
    • Rob has been in the construction industry for over 25 years and has worked for large national firms. His background enables him to effectively manage the daily activities of the project managers and estimating team. He assists in implementing technical estimating standards and procedures as well as overseeing the budgets, planning and construction sequencing for all builds. He is responsible for the training and staffing of the project managers and estimators.
  • Beth Frerichs – Marketing Manager
    • Beth came to Chief from a global marketing firm and has broad experience in managing marketing programs and strategies. She is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic marketing plans for Chief Construction in order to attract potential customers and retain existing ones. She is focused on coordinating marketing campaigns with sales activities and goals while increasing internal employee engagement.


New Hires

 Project Managers coordinate the work of all project team members to facilitate an efficient and effective construction process from design to closeout and warranty. With direct client interaction, the project managers are responsible for understanding client needs and delivering a facility to them that meets their expectations and must-haves.

  • Tyler Petersen – Project Manager
    • As a project manager for more than 7 years with Valmont Industries, Tyler comes to Chief Construction with solid experience. He recieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Peter Kiewit Institute, providing a solid foundation and knowledge base for his current role.Tyler will be located in Omaha and serving the greater Omaha area.

Project Superintendents are responsible for scheduling, inspections, quality control and job site safety for each of our builds. Oversee the jobsite daily, coordinating the phasing of construction with each subcontractors to meet schedule dates and budgets, and communicating with the owner and project manager are all key aspects of the role.

    • Brandon Wagner – Project Superintendent
      • While attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney and receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management, Wagner worked as the construction lab assistant for the University. With over a decade of experience in construction as a laborer and assistant superintendent after college, he fits flawlessly with Chief Construction and is an asset on numerous projects from commercial to education to healthcare.
    • Dan Powers – Project Superintendent
      • Dan Powers began his career developing and building custom homes before moving into various construction positions. With a 25-year record of success in all phases of construction projects, Powers will be able to seamlessly coordinate the construction process from design to closeout.

 Senior Estimators responsible for the overall project estimate while providing leadership, training, and mentoring for the team. Works with clients, architects/engineers, subcontractors/ suppliers to plan cost factors for building projects; analyzes construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.

  • Adam Streck – Senior Estimator
    • Streck will help lead estimating efforts for Chief Construction while providing leadership, training and mentoring to our team. Streck graduated with an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree in Architectural Engineering from Southeast Community College and has over 6 years of specific estimating experience. 


New Positions & New Hires

The Project Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the preparation of comprehensive action plans, including resources, timeframes and budgets for projects. Coordinating tasks, like schedule and risk management, along with administrative duties, like maintaining project documentation and handling financial queries are also key initiatives. Ultimately, the project coordinator ensures all projects are completed thoroughly with the project owner top of mind.

    • Kyle Huse – Project Coordinator
      • Huse comes to Chief Construction with a Business Administration Degree and over 13 years of work experience. His strong eye for detail and drive to get projects completed makes him an asset to the team.
    •  Kiley Keck- Project Coordinator
      • Keck joins Chief Construction with over 10 years of experience in the construction industry. She has worked in various roles from accounts manager, project coordinator and project engineer.

 Our carpentry division is highly versatile, taking on many different tasks. Our team focuses on the installation of structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding, constructing building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes along with inspecting and replacing damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.

  • Jon Jakob – Carpenter
    • Jakob, formerly a Project Supervisor with O’Neill Transportation and Equipment, has taken on the role of overseeing our new division, Carpentry. He will work with the project managers and owners to ensure all details and finish work are completed accurately.
